DirectVobSub (auto-loading version) Over-riding other filters?
Ramisha:
Greetings Comrades.
Like many I've used CCCP and MPC-HC for -ages- probably as far back as 2006 or 2007.
I've never had an issue till now and of course it's only after rebuilding my laptop.
I'll outline first outline the issue, whats happening and what should be happening.
then I'll give you all that tech stuff you requested.
I'll try an keep this as pointed as i can.
what brought me to find my issue.upon having a odd audio stutter in VLC from a DVD I tried the DVD on MPC and found the same issue.. yet this didn't happen with either player with any media off my hard drive. however in MPC while playing the DVD I noticed a new filter that -never- opened with anything I've ever played before with it.
before moving on further, I've fixed the dvd issue uninstalling both and doing clean installs of both along with a firmware update for the dvd drive. during the re-installs I cleared both programs settings files thus clean fresh starts. VLC was first then CCCP.
whats happening now.once dvd was working I took a look into this new filter by playing the same test anime again
Summer Wars bluray with DTS 5.1 mkv before hand it played fine this time there was no sound and the filter I saw during DVD playback was there weather this had shown up during anime hdd tests whilst troubleshooting DVD I'm not sure.. it was very late at night.
I'll also mention at this time I use a Tritton GoW 3 Dolby Digital EX 7.1 with Prologic IIx S/PDIF headset and a Turtle Beach Audio Advantage Mirco II USB adapter with S/PDIF pass through as my hardware.
I've watched this movie a good 10+ times ya I liked it that much.. as such I know which filters should show up. ffdshow Audio Decoder and ffdshow Video Decoder, and how it should sound, and also that the "Dolby D" light on my headset decoder box should turn on as the ffdshow Audio Decoder will pass the true 5.1 content from the file to the box.
Ocasionaly Haali Media Splitter comes up as well for most of my mkv files.
These are the three main ones that would come up for -any- anime content I watch off my hdd, before the rebuild of my laptop.
Before the re-build, I had the most uptodate copy of CCCP as well as a up to date copy of MPC-HC from their site. (I realize this may not be normal but it worked fine for me before the rebuild of laptop, linked with CCCP filters natively as if it simply replaced the other MPC)
what I have right now and what I did when reinstalling.I have a CLEAN install of CCCP and the -default- MPC-HC that comes with it only.
I uninstalled with remove settings on, restarted laptop, installed, let it auto reset settings, and open setting menu. I left the defaults, clicked reset settings and re-register filters, apply. RESET LAPTOP. then re opened settings, set S/PDIF options on AC3, DTS, AC3 Encode, Bit-rate 448. FFDShow Audio set to 3/2/2+LFE 7.1 channels.
when playing Summer wars the following filters show up. fffdshow Audio Decoder, ffdshow Video Decoder, DirectVobSub, and Haali Media Splitter. but I hear absolutely nothing sound wise. and yes I did try doing a complet reinstall following the same steps as above and playing with default settings only. exact same thing.
DirectVobSub never showed up before I rebuilt my laptop, nothing used it, I'm not sure if it showed up during the anime hdd testing I did at like 230am whilst the dvd drive was still acting up.. but it's really the only thing I can think of that might be causing the issue I'm not sure though thus why I've come to you all hoping we might be-able to find an answer.
as I said with Summer wars MPC would normally send the true 5.1 content via the FFDS Audio filter through the S/PDIF pass through on the TB-AAMII usb adapter to my Tritton's decoder box.
Shows that did -not- have "true" multi channel content the "Dolby D" light would NOT light up instead the decoder would work it's simulated magic. (there are only two drivers in the headset so in reality its -always- simulated 7.1 but there is a very clear difference when the sorce file has 5.1 or not.)
I've tried playing other shows that I curently have with the same result. no sound.
This is the issue, I'm in your care.

End CCCP Insurgent Log - Version 2007-01-01
~Ramisha
namaiki:
DirectVobSub (Auto-load Version) is there only for subtitles.
Does your headset/adapter support streaming of Dolby/DTS True HD? Does it work if you disable the S/PDIF options in ffdshow audio?
Ramisha:
Ah only there for subs... ok still odd that I've never seen it before lol.
and yes my headset does.
and it should. the head set is designed to take a standard 2 chan audio stream and split it up into 5.1 or 7.1 the head set it self is in-discriminate to how it receives the audio stream from the file as long as it's over optical as the optical pass through usb key is my default audio device it should be fine. but as I said in the longer than intended issue summary.
even with just default CCCP settings. there is no sound.
~Ramisha
namaiki:
Now, this is quite unlikely to work as it is an issue caused by a situation that rarely occurs, but I think it's worth a try.
Download this file:
http://www.mediafire.com/?81xibr0xkyme7ie
Make sure that your hardware is plugged in and that there is no sound when you try play a video in MPC-HC.
Open the above file in MPC-HC and while it is open, click the speaker icon in MPC-HC to mute and then again to unmute and make sure the volume slider in MPC-HC is at max. Now, try play a video and see if sound comes back.
Ramisha:
Er... just for the heck of it I tried playing with DTS off before trying your file.. and I have sound now.. though the Doubly D light on the decoader box isn't lighting up like it used to.
~Rami
