Problems with Renderers and Chapters
« on: June 18, 2012, 09:27:21 PM »

Hello,

I have two different problems that I'd like to ask about here.  I'd like to preface both of them with the fact that I have not experienced these problems on either of the other two computers I have used with the same version of CCCP, despite their inferior hardware.  This includes a computer running Windows XP from 2000 and another running Windows Vista from 2008.  My current computer is newer, has higher specs, and is running Windows 7 64-bit.  More details will follow with my Insurgent log.

1) I can't seem to successfully utilize any renderer except Overlay.  I previously used EVR, but now all I'm getting is what appears to be a horrible refresh rate problem.  I have tried some fixes, but none seem to work for me.  The best I can get is using EVR Sync and moving the flicker higher or lower on the picture.  On Overlay, there is no problem, but it would be nice to be able to use the superior renders that work on my others.

2) This problem is with some files, but not others.  When an MKV file has chapters (in the file, not to external files), at the point when the player reaches another chapter, the video becomes buggy and choppy.  I can fix it if I scrub back a few seconds within the same chapter, but otherwise, it won't go away on its own.  I can provide examples of files in which is does and does not do this, and just as much as a solution, I'd like to be informed what exactly causes such a thing to happen.  Again, all files played fine on the other computers.

I appreciate any help that can be provided.  Thank you.

Try install the latest CCCP.

Regarding tearing, please tell me if Aero is enabled or disabled and how many monitors are connected to the computer.

Check the chapters thing again after updating. If it doesn't work, please do the troubleshooting steps below. Names of files would help too.

When asking for help, please do the following:
1. Open the video in MPC-HC and tell me what items are listed in the menu: 'Play-> Filters.'
Download the CCCP Insurgent and:
2. Tools > Media Information > "problem file"
3. Tools > Test Render > "problem file"
4. Tools > CRC Check > "problem file"
5. File > Save Log
6. Open the log you just saved in Notepad and copy the entire contents into your next post.

I installed the latest version of CCCP and reset all settings.  I still can only use Overlay without the problem -- tearing, is that what it's called?  I'm very sorry, but I've never heard of Aero.  Could you tell me where to check if it is enabled or not?  There is only one monitor, it is a laptop.

Under Play > Filters:
Default DirectSound Device
Video Renderer
Audio Switcher
Overlay Mixer
ffdshow Audio Decoder
DirectVobSub (auto-loading version)
ffdshow Video Decoder

I've included two completely different examples for the sake of figuring things out: [EG]ZZ_Gundam_BD_06(720p)[79882090] and [Coalgirls]_Kiss_x_Sis_06_(1280x720_Blu-Ray_FLAC)_[15E80171].  The fact that they're both #6 is irrelevent, both series experience this in their entirety.

Regarding Aero: Press Windows Key + Tab. If the windows do a 3D Flip, Aero is enabled. If not, Aero is disabled. If Aero is disabled, try use the "EVR" video renderer. Personally I think the best renderer with Aero disabled is Overlay Mixer.

Regarding the chapters issue, uninstall AC3Filter via the programs list in the Control Panel or unregister the following using the Advanced menu in the CCCP Insurgent: Filename: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ac3filter.ax

Nothing happened when I used that key combination, so Aero must be disabled.  Every output option besides "Overlay Mixer" gives me those refresh rate looking issues.  So, in your opinion, I won't be losing any quality if I just use "Overlay Mixer" all the time?  If so, I trust your opinion.

I could not find that in my programs list in the Control Panel.  I went to unregister it through the Advanced menu in CCCP Insurgent, and I got this.

RegSvr32
The module "C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ac3filter.ax" was loaded bt the call to DllUnregisterServer failed with error code 0x80070005.

Did you already check if the chapters issue is still present?

I did, and it is still present.

On a side note, which might resolve something.  I looked up "Aero," found out it was under themes, and I set my theme to that.  Now I'm getting absolutely no refresh rate issues, even in EVR.  Is this something that you would recommend?

EDIT:  You know what?  It seems like, for the moment, this Aero thing has solved everything.  The chapters issue does have a habit of disappearing for a few plays and returning, though... but for the moment, it seems like all is well.  I am truly grateful, you have helped me an immense amount.  :3

Yup. Personally, I use "EVR" with Aero enabled. It's the fastest renderer but it lacks features listed in the View-> Video Frame and Pan&Scan menus.

Is that choppy issue any better with EVR?

edit: Oops, haha. Glad that it seems to be better.
