Hi, I've got a problem with HD WMV files when I use the Haali Renderer. When they start playing, they are okay, but as the video progresses, the video starts to lag behind the audio a little. It's not even a one second lag, but it's enough to notice it. It doesn't do it with the Overlay Mixer, only Haali, and it only does it with HD WMV files. I've tried normal WMV files, 1080p MKV files, 720p MP4 files, they all work flawlessly. Because of that, I find this problem very weird. I'm using Media Player Classic by the way. Does anyone know what causes this and if there's a solution?

Here's some info and a problematic video that serves as example:

Thanks for reading!

Could be just the usual case of a slow CPU, you can't do too much about MS stuff anyway, but do check the CPU usage. Also paste the output pin (the one that connects to the renderer) info of the video decoder there with both renderers during playback from the Play/Filters menu of mpc-hc.

If you really want you could try enabling the decoding in ffdshow video decoder, but keep in mind that it might bork randomly.

The CPU usage with Haali Video Renderer averages between 30 and 40.

The CPU usage with Overlay Mixer averages between 5 and 13.

For fun, I checked it with the 1080p MKV file (with Haali) and it averaged between 30 and 40 also, but I use CoreAVC, don't know if that helps.

I'm not sure I understood what you asked me to paste, so I don't know if this is okay:

Yes, that is exactly what I wanted. As expected, it seems to use DXVA in the second one.

I checked what DXVA is and I think I understand. In the end, the problem is slow CPU?

For the decoder you have to use and that file, yes it seems so.

Ah, missed the E4500.

That sucks. I'm rocking Win7 with Opt 148 and 8800GT...and about every 2 minutes or so I'll get a lag spike in the video and the audio will slow down by .25 seconds. It's not much, but it soon adds up.

If it is just a spike, it really should catch up right after it, at least with Haali's renderer.

Don't forget to install the latest Windows Media(WM) 11 decoders on Windows XP, they've the best compatability and performance since it is Microsoft's proprietary codec after all.
