WMP11, Vista MCE 32bit - No external subtitles and slow video

Firstly CCCP and MPC works like a charm and I am using coreavc. Sorry if I am asking to much been trying and searching information for a couple of days now. Including tons in this forum.

1. WMP11 doesn't display any external subtitles, though it loads internal if the movie has them, And yes Autoload VSFilter is selected. MPC displays external subtitles.
2. Video is slower in WMP11/MCE and maybe its my imagination but I think it looks granier. Works like a charm in MPC, I am using CoreAVC

I am on to a solution. It has to do with CoreAVC. It is v1.85 and "preferred decoder". From version 1.85 it is default. When I installed v1.7 and unchecked "preferred decoder" everything went back to normal. Then I installed 1.85 and directly did the same. Then I could use the latest version to...

But I had to use a new install. With the old I couldn't go back with the same result. It was some permanent registry problem that never went away with the same procedure as I used above.

Thank you it works, though I just unchecked preferred decoder 'version 1.85' No reinstall or anything. Works with WMP11 and Vista MCE

I am using coreavc.
You don't seem to be.

1. WMP11 doesn't display any external subtitles, though it loads internal if the movie has them, And yes Autoload VSFilter is selected.
External subtitles for the exact same file, or playing different files too? If the former, post a media info on the corresponding subtitles too.

MPC displays external subtitles.
Using the included mpc-hc, and reseted settings?

2. Video is slower in WMP11/MCE and maybe its my imagination but I think it looks granier.
Probably there is little you can do about that besides poking random settings in them and maybe your video drivers.

Sorry you're right played with the settings and had h264 enabled for cccp, coreavc is loading now.

All files

Yes mpc-hc displays external subtitles with reseted settings exactly as it should for all files, WMP11 doesn't display anything, enabling vsfilter displays subtitles in WMP11 if present in the mkv container but not the external .srt subtitle file which has the same name as the .mkv file

Thought the codec and decoder handled that? hrmm anyways still the same slowness in WMP11 which works fine in mpc-hc with coreavc enabled

Test Render
Filter 4: CoreAVC Video Decoder

All files
But external subtitles for the exact same file where internal ones work fine?

Thought the codec and decoder handled that?
And aren't you using the same decoder in both?

yup exactly as you said no "external subtitles for the exact same file where internal ones work fine"

Yes same decoder CoreAVC... vista strangeness or imagination ?(

EDIT
Could be a bug in newer versions of vsfilter?

Try VSFilter v2.33

OMFG, it works! What was the difference between the versions?

Thanks clsid for the solution, and to others that bothered to assist me, truly.

Tried to install cccp without vsfilter then downloaded the 2.33 dll but seems I can't install it
regsvr32 VSfilter.dll    'error code 0x80070005'
Anyways time to eat been at it for a couple of hours now

yup exactly as you said no "external subtitles for the exact same file where internal ones work fine"
Do post that media info on the subs then.

More like WMP weirdness.

Could be a bug in newer versions of vsfilter?
Unlikely. And you seriously don't want to touch that ancient version.

regsvr32 VSfilter.dll    'error code 0x80070005'
Not like I suggest doing that, but did you make sure you're running it with sufficient privileges?

Try putting your subtitles into C:\subtitles (or any absolute paths you set up in the VSFilter config), and see if they are loaded then.

I'm suspecting WMP is just clever and hides the filename/path, so VSFilter can have no clue what to look for.

Didn't work

Found another problem to, I know I said otherwise earlier as it seems I jumped to conclusions I thought if the movie had embedded subs it would show them which it didn't for all files. ..... (feels stupid)

WMP11
vsfilter is loading if the movie have embedded subs, though it doesn't load external
vsfilter isn't loading at all if the movie is missing embedded subs (guess as I only have 1 file without embedded)

Will post the log for that file below though it wont help much :/, WMP11 wierdness gah

EDIT : mpc-hc works like its intended for that file, external subs vsfilter loading

One additional point of potential interest would be the results of WMP's Help:About:Technical Support Information.  That little log spew is pretty helpful as far as knowing more about the player's state.

But given the content in question, I am understandably not interested in this issue as it stands. Clean content/clean repros are much more interesting, but even still it'd be most interesting to the filter team for the first look. :)

It seems like you installed a broken codec pack (not CCCP) that registered the Indeo Audio Codec ( iac25_32.ax in that list).  I would expect that you may experience random crashes within various MPEG2-aware applications.  The codec/filter is pretty deliberately not registered in the way that that bad codec pack registered it.

You may want to have higher standards in the future as regards what software you put on your system.
