Slowed/Lagging Video
« on: July 04, 2007, 11:02:39 AM »
Okay, I've been using CCCP for a while, but recently, whenever I watch any .AVI or .MKV files, the video tends to lag behind the audio by a considerable amount. I have had other codecs installed prior to my use of CCCP, but I uninstalled them before installing CCCP. Also, they have not caused me any problems recently. I've also run a few registry scans on trial editions of several types of software, in hopes that maybe my registry was just slowing things down. That wasn't effective either. I used the insurgent as instructed, and here's my log:

Any help would be appreciated!

Those other codecs have left their fair share of redundancy on your system. Go tools -> advanced in Insurgent, then select the following filters in the list on the right and click unregister filter:
Code: [Select]
25> CoreAAC Audio Decoder
Filename: C:\WINDOWS\system32\CoreAAC.ax
CLSID: {6AC7C19E-8CA0-4E3D-9A9F-2881DE29E0AC}
Date: 2006-08-16 | 09:53:32

30> Dirac Splitter
Filename: C:\WINDOWS\system32\DiracSplitter.ax
CLSID: {5899CFB9-948F-4869-A999-5544ECB38BA5}
Date: 2005-01-17 | 18:26:36

104> RadLight Ogg Splitter
Filename: C:\WINDOWS\system32\RLOgg.ax
CLSID: {1F6315AD-8396-4D41-94B8-A0FE653B0146}
Date: 2005-02-12 | 18:00:00

105> RadLight Speex Decoder
Filename: C:\WINDOWS\system32\RLSpeexDec.ax
CLSID: {A2A37EB7-2D72-42D7-AE30-CBDABC12A1CE}

106> RadLight Theora Decoder
Filename: C:\WINDOWS\system32\RLTheoraDec.ax
CLSID: {E9935DAE-640E-4F2B-9A72-C78525D2ECB9}
Date: 2005-02-12 | 18:00:00

107> RadLight Vorbis Decoder
Filename: C:\WINDOWS\system32\RLVorbisDec.ax
CLSID: {21336D1A-35E8-4169-A2EF-5D0AC2A37A97}

After you've done that you can _uninstall_ divx and xvid if you like. They are not needed for decoding as ffdshow can decode both and will take priority over them anyway.

Then run Filmerit as per wiki instructions.

When you're done with filmerit reinstall CCCP and change _nothing_ on install. Make especially sure reset all settings is checked. Then test your files again with MPC and Zoom from Start -> Programs -> CCCP. If you still experience lagging make another log as you've done in your original post.

That helped, however there is still a good deal of lag. I figured that some registry values in previous codecs might be conflicting or redundant. Thank you so much for the help. Here's the updated file:

I'm also having trouble with MKV files still, so here's a log of one of those files, if that helps:

These filters are still present. Unregister them in Insurgent:
Code: [Select]
85> RadLight Ogg Splitter
Filename: C:\WINDOWS\system32\RLOgg.ax
CLSID: {1F6315AD-8396-4D41-94B8-A0FE653B0146}
Date: 2005-02-12 | 18:00:00

86> RadLight Speex Decoder
Filename: C:\WINDOWS\system32\RLSpeexDec.ax
CLSID: {A2A37EB7-2D72-42D7-AE30-CBDABC12A1CE}
Date: 2005-02-12 | 18:00:00

87> RadLight Theora Decoder
Filename: C:\WINDOWS\system32\RLTheoraDec.ax
CLSID: {E9935DAE-640E-4F2B-9A72-C78525D2ECB9}
Date: 2005-02-12 | 18:00:00

88> RadLight Vorbis Decoder
Filename: C:\WINDOWS\system32\RLVorbisDec.ax
CLSID: {21336D1A-35E8-4169-A2EF-5D0AC2A37A97}
Date: 2005-02-05 | 18:00:00

Then go start -> Programs -> CCCP -> ffdshow video (left side, all the way down). Check yv12 there and apply. Test with CCCP players again.

I tried that, but nothing seemed to change. I also reinstalled CCCP, and then changed the ffdshow setting, again to no effect.

Just a guess though... forgive me if I am mistaken...

Quote
Processor:    mobile AMD Athlon(tm) XP-M 2400+,  MMX,  3DNow, ~1.8GHz

Quote
Video Stream 0:
Codec: XVID (Family: MPEG-4)
Dimensions: 1024x576, AR: 16/9

emptyeighty (and other CCCP staffs), Is it possible that his CPU not enough to decode this high resolution?
Just a guess from me though.

And to the one with problem, how about other AVI (if possible, with lower resolution one)?
Do u have same "lagging" problem with other AVIs that are using normal resolution?

That might be the problem, as my processor seems to be acting even worse than it already is (it's subject to frequent overheating unless I have an additional external fan blowing under my laptop), however, I was able to decode video of that resolution that I can no longer decode. I am able to decode and view the same file on an older computer with  1.5GHz processing speed though, so I don't think that the processor is the problem. And to answer your question: there is less of a problem with lower resolutions, but that would be expected if I had redundant codecs, right?

Same number of 1.5 GHz does not mean much if the processor itself is different.
For example: "1.6 GHz Pentium M has more power than 2.4 GHz Pentium 4" means that number means nothing if the processor type is different (thx to CCCP staffs that teach me this).

Your older computer may have same 1.5 GHz number, but probably the type of processor shows that it has more power than your AMD Athlon Mobility.

And u said that less resolution has less problem, showing that your processor does have problem with high resolution = not enough power to decode high resolution.

Also overheating when decoding high resolution shows that actually your processor is not capable of decoding high resolution.

Seems like u have no choice but to watch the "sola" in other more powerful computer or download version of "sola" that has lower resolution such as Doremi's Xvid version of "sola".

No... sorry... I didn't explain that properly. My computer is prone to overheating regardless of what it's doing. The fan's just crappy. I did not use to have these kinds of playback problems until recently. I have watched video on this computer with the same resolution without problem while transcoding video and using other programs. And with lower resolutions it is just less of a problem. There is still a problem.

So the problem lies in your fan then.

If the fan isnt working well, it will make the processor hotter and decrease the power output of the processor, result in the processor cant work fully. My recommendation that u change ur fan to new one so your processor can work well.

About your problem, I just remember that I have experience it once when my cpu fan has problem and causing it is to overheat, consume much CPU usage even just to play Xvid file. The only solution is to change the fan and after that, my laptop back to its FULL power ^^

1.8GHz should be plenty for xvid of that res.

Forum Monkey: Check if your system temperatures are dangerously high, there should be sensors in your laptop. If they are you may have to take your laptop back to the manufacturer.

I've checked, and the temperature doesn't get abnormally high as long as I have good ventilation under it. I do plan on replacing my fan, but I don't think that is the problem here. I tried using one of those USB external laptop fan things, and I still have problems with decoding. There is probably some issue with leftover garbage from older codecs, or some other similar issue. I'm pretty confident that this still a software problem. I could be wrong, but I really can't just run out and buy a replacement fan at the moment.

The symptoms you're describing really don't sound like anything playback related. But anyway, try decoding that xvid with mplayer. Just unzip that to somewhere and drop the file over mplayer.exe.

Mplayer works fine. It decodes smoothly and there is no misalignment in the video from the audio. The overheating stuff was probably irrelevant and I shouldn't have mentioned it. I did take my CPU fan/heat sink out and clean them, and zplayer now works a bit better, however I am pretty sure that there is a conflicting codec somewhere.
