Video files only work on MP 10
« on: May 07, 2007, 07:15:17 AM »
Apart from Media Player 10, my video files keep crashing the system when I use any player.
It didnt use to before, it just happened out of nowhere. I uninstalled and reinstalled the codec, but the same problem occurs.

So far, these players have crashed when I play avi mkv ogm:

Zoom Player
Media Player Classic
Real Player
Windows Media Player 6.

When I try the above, there is audio, but the video freezes, and the when I try to close the window, the system freezes. There is no error message.

Media player 10 works but I dont like using that player and it used to work on the above players before.

I am using
Windows XP Professional SP2 ,
AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 3000+ ~1.8GHz
640 MB Ram.

I have tried other codec packs as well, but with the same results. Help!!!

P.S: I'm a novice, so go easy on me if I forgot something.

[Codec/Filter Packs]
[4 detected]
1> ACE Mega CoDecS Pack (Uninstalled)
2> Cole2k Media Codec Pack (Uninstalled)
3> Combined Community Codec Pack (2007-02-22) (Installed)
4> K-Lite Codec Pack (Uninstalled)
That's one evil list you had there, but surprisingly there aren't any noticable leftovers, or rather aftermath.

From the description, reinstalling video and/or motherboard drivers would be my first suggestion, and post a few test renders on those files if that doesn't help.

I reinstalled the old graphics driver that came with the graphics card:
ATI Radeon 7000 series.

And it worked. The problem was gone. But when I install the updated driver, the problem returned. So I guess I have to stick to the old driver.

Thanks for the help. Appreciate it :] :] :]
