The description sounds like DRM, though lav splitter seems to handle it fine (just make sure you don't leave it enabled). WMP might be just calling home behind your back, though it just throws the generic "unknown error" here.

I get a "Cannot render the file" when I try to play back the SWTOR 1.2 video in MPC (http://cdn-www.swtor.com//sites/all/files/en/vc/20120307_gu126/TOR_game_update_2_wmv.zip from http://www.swtor.com/info/media/trailers/coming-game-update-1.2 , WMV version).  If I try it in WMP directly, it works without issue.

Its not a major concern for me, since I can play it other ways, but I have no idea why it won't render.  Anyone got an ideas?
