Despite the increased reports of confusion (and the fact it intuitively makes sense) I just can't find the numbers to back it up. Comparing days 0 to -30 against -60 to -90 the ratio of hits for downloading CCCP vs. CCCPi has increased.
Correcting for changes in absolute visitor counts, the number of Insurgent downloads has fallen ~15% and the number of CCCP downloads has increased ~4%. If anything, people are less confused now.
For the record, downloads are split about 95:5, up from 90:10.

I still think the number of insurgent downloads is higher than it should be though, so i'll spend some time making the insurgent link less obvious.

Does anyone think it's a bad idea to remove the Insurgent download link entirely from the front page? I think it would be a good idea because the only people who should get it are those who we direct to it.

I'd also like to change its download link from download.php?type=cccpi to download.php?type=insurgent. Pretty minor, but I think it will make the two URLs clearer.

Maybe make the download link go to a description page that you probably want to grab the other one with a hueg back (or CCCP download) button instead. Along with making the Insurgent button smaller/whatever.
Otherwise the main problem with removing it completely is that it will be harder for us to tell them where to grab it from.

I never got why it was "cccpi" in the first place, besides confusing anyone who looks at it.

We just point them to !wiki Insurgent which is good enough imo

Yes, and now I have admin rights so I can probably start removing all the annoying sigs from random users so I could turn them back on. :P

change the link thats fine with me.  i would leave it on the front page though, maybe a little less obvious but still there.
